Santana: ‘no regrets about south africa’

CAPE TOWN — Joel Santana has no regrets about severing ties with the South African Football Association (Safa).

While the former Bafana Bafana coach has agreed not to speak to the South African press, he has given his first interview to the Portuguese website,

“Football is like love. If a woman does not want you anymore, what are you going to do? I wanted to continue our relationship, but they did not want it.

“I am going to take many fond memories out of the country, especially of people I met and befriended. I have been out in the street and they continue to treat me … with the same respect.

“Members of the federation [Safa] treated me very well; they did everything properly and even invited me to return for the World Cup,” he said of his 17-month affair with South African soccer.
