Saru: there’s no plan to sack Bok coaches

2010-12-01 00:00

THE South African Rugby Union (Saru) yesterday categorically denied that there are moves to sack any of the Springbok coaches or management team ahead of next year’s Rugby World Cup, writes JOHN BISHOP.

Saru, concerned by “the persistent media reports relating to the future of the Springbok assistant coaches [Gary Gold and Dick Muir]” released a statement denying there are any such plans.

Andy Marinos, Saru manager for the national team, said the media reports, the latest in a series of allegations regarding the future of members of the Springbok management, are all untrue.

“It is not the policy of Saru to react to rumours and allegations, but the persistent and irresponsible media reporting on the future of the Springbok assistant coaches the past few days have compelled us to put the record straight.

“These rumours are unfounded, unsubstantiated and factually incorrect. Saru president Regan Hoskins has already stated there are no plans to form a technical committee and that this item is not on the agenda of our executive council meeting on Thursday,” said Marinos.

Saru said they would not comment any further on the matter.
