Sa’s biggest parade marches in

LADYSMITH’s Murchison Street was completely closed at the weekend while military regiments and the SA Police Service exercised their ri ght of entry into Ladysmith.

Said to be the largest regimental military parade in SA, the following formations displayed their arms and colours: Natal Carbineers, 5 SA Infantry Battalion, SA Navy, Irish Guards, Harrismith Commando and the Royal Navy.

The Ladysmith branch of the SA Police Service was also given the opportunity to exercise the right of the freedom of the town, as were the Natal Field Artillery, Transvaalse Staat­artilleries, the Vrystaatse Artillerie Regiment, Natal Mounted Rifles, Durban Light Infantry, Umvoti Mounted Rifles, 15 Maintenance Unit, One Medical Battalion Group, 121 Battalion Group and the Duke of Lancaster Regiment.

The function ended with a mayoral banquet with Drakens­berg Boys’ Choir and Ladysmith Black Mambazo performing at the star-studded event. — Ladysmith Herald.
