‘Satanic’ ritual teen dies

2011-10-29 00:00

AN 18-year-old girl, who was set alight in Johannesburg in a suspected satanic ritual last Friday, has died from her injuries early yesterday morning.

This changes one of the charges on which four young men will appear in Johannesburg Regional Court next week — from attempted murder to murder.

Kirsty Theologo and a 14-year-old friend were reportedly tied when they met with a group of eight friends last Friday night on a hilltop between Rosettenville and Linmeyer in Johannesburg, a kilometre from Kirsty’s home.

The four men poured petrol over Theologo and then set her alight. Her friend managed to free herself and then frantically rolled Theologo in the sand to put the flames out — burning herself severely during the rescue.

Before burning Kirsty, the hand of another 13-year-old girl, who was in the group, was cut and her blood was dribbled on a Bible.

The two injured girls went for help from their nearby homes after the event.

Spokesperson for Booysens Police warrant officer Lorraine van Emmerik yesterday confirmed that Kirsty has died of her injuries and presumed heart failure at about 4 am in Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The four accused, Lindon Wagner (21), Robin Harwood (18), Lester Evan Nathaniel Moody (18) and Jeremy King (18) appeared on Tuesday on two charges of attempted murder in the Johannesburg regional court.

Her mother, Sylvia Theologo, was too shocked to comment on her daughter’s death. Theologo was the second oldest of seven children.
