Sayed: trail of suspect facing 29 charges adjourned to 2010

2009-12-04 00:00

THE trial of Faizel Sayed (35), who faces multiple charges of murder, kidnapping, rape and robbery, has now been adjourned until March 29 next year in the Pietermaritzburg high court.

All nine of Sayed’s alleged rape victims completed their testimony before Acting Judge Ben van Heerden and two assessors over the past two weeks.

Sayed has pleaded not guilty to a total of 29 charges. The alleged offences were all committed between February and June 2008, starting with the alleged kidnapping, rape and murder of nine-year-old Nombuso Nhlangulela of Howick.

She had plastic bags tied around her head and was gagged. Medical evidence showed she had been raped.
