Sccident: Woman killed driving from festival

2011-05-16 00:00

AN unidentified woman in her 20s died when her vehicle overturned on the D292 road in the Merrivale Heights area on Saturday afternoon.

Howick police spokesperson Captain Lolly Moodley said the woman was driving from the annual Pig and Beer Festival in Pecanwood, 15 kilometres from Pietermaritzburg just before Howick when the accident happened.

Moodley said the woman lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, killing her instantly.

She was alone in the car.

In an attempt to get details on the incident from the organisers, whose contact numbers were listed in Friday’s Witness, a man who didn’t identify himself said they were not discussing the incident over the phone.

“A statement will be released to the media when the time is right,” said the man.

A case of culpable homicide was opened at Mpophomeni police station.
