Scenic Midlands Meander Marathon set for next Sunday

THE annual Honeydew Midlands Meander Marathon will be held next Sunday, starting at Clifton School in Nottingham Road. The race is in its fourth year under Howick Athletic Club.

This Comrades qualifying event offers a 42,2 km marathon, a 21,1 km walk/run and a five kilometre fun run/walk.

The scenic route will take runners on a double-lap course along the Fort Nottingham Road and Gowrie golf estate and village, finishing with a steep hill at the Clifton school grounds.

Entries for the race are not limited and all finishers will receive T-shirts. The cut-off time for the marathon is five hours, and the 21,1 km has been extended to three-and-a-half hours to accommodate walkers.

Online entries ( close at 4.30 pm on Wednesday. Entries will be taken on Saturday from 2 pm to 6 pm at Howick Athletic Club at Midmar Dam, and on race day from 4.30 am to 6 am at Clifton School. The school entrance will close at 5.50 am to ensure traffic is clear for the race start at 6 am.

Howick Athletic Club have thanked the race sponsors and the Midlands Meander Association for their support. Many lucky dip prizes will be available, sponsored by Lordlee Cottages, Bellwood Cottages, Lions River Country Cottages, Merrivale Spar, Karkloof Canopy Tours, Karkloof Farmers’ Market, Nottingham Road Breweries and Mini Melt Ice Creams.
