2011-07-02 00:00

THE WHO’s who of famous circles will make their appearance today at the 115th running of the Vodacom Durban July, which takes place at Greyville Racecourse.

A stellar line-up of top political figures and giants of commerce and industry rubbing shoulders with pop stars, beauty queens, sport stars and A-list socialites are all glammed up and ready to show.

The VVIP Vodacom “Paddock” enclosure in the main grandstand, where president Jacob Zuma spent some of his day at last year’s Vodacom Durban July (who could forget the infamous alcohol spillage?), once again boasts a heavyweight guest list loaded with celebrities, politicians and business icons.

They include KZN premier Dr Zweli Mkhize, business tycoon Peter Matlare, and soccer boss Danny Jordaan.

Supermodel Roxy Louw will enjoy the raceday from the Vodacom “Paddock” alongside sultry Shashi Naidoo, recently voted FHM’s Sexiest Woman in the World, DJ Mark Pilgrim and kwaito legend HHP, Kaizer Chiefs soccer stars Kaizer Motaung Jnr, Jimmy Tau, Ithumeleng Khune and World Cup hero Siphiwe Tshabalala, Orlando Pirates players Andile Jali, Nkosana Khosa, Floyd Mbele and Mickey Modisane, along with Pirates and PSL boss Irvin Khosa.

Entertainers KB, Leeanne, Zakes Bantwini, Loyiso Bala, DJ Tira, Slikour, Durban songster Jae and The Arrows will be part of a glittering line-up on stage in the chic Vodacom grandstand suite.

Anant Singh’s annual Videovision gathering will include national Police Commissioner Bheki Cele, singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka, International Olympic Committee executive member Sam Ramsamy, Isidingo actress Leeandra Reddy, Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula, Minister of Arts and Culture Paul Mashatile and the new speaker of the Durban City Council, Logie Naidoo.

The hyped-up MTV Base marquee in the infield Marquee Village is running a “Pimp My Crown” theme.

It will feature a range of top entertainers, from the hit band Liquideep and the hot Durban hit duo The Arrows as well as Umlazi giants Big Nuz and DJ Euphonic.

Many of 5FM’s top DJs will be in action at numerous marquees and suites during the day before focusing their energy on the official Vodacom Durban July after-party at DLI Hall in the racecourse infield.

The Miller Dark Horse marquee will headline 5FM’s DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Milkshake and Roger Goode and MC’s Grant and Anele, with live performances by 1st Project, Lulo Café, C-Live, Dimplez, George the Beat Boxer, Goodluck and Zakes Bantwini.

The Sibaya marquee, which occupies the top floor of the double decker marquee in the infield marquee village will host Miss SA, Bokang Montjane, and madam Tobeka Zuma in a marquee lavishly styled as a “Right Royal Indian Affair”.

The Lifestyle Oasis has a star-studded guestlist that includes socialites Khanyi Mbau and Shakes Mokgosi, designer Craig Jacobs, and musician Simpiwe Dana.

Also on the Lifestyle guestlist are Generations stars Sonia Sedibe, Thami Mngqolo, Zolisa Xaluva, Winnie Ntsheaba and Thabiso Mkhethi alongside Isidingo personalities Maurice Paige, Jay Anstey, Sisa Hewana and Vuyo Dabula.

The Action Stage in front of the massive tote board will play host to a rolling programme of fashion competitions and shows, anchored by top actor Ben Voss in his popular persona of Beauty Ramapelepele.
