School: Kharina secondary excels

2008-06-30 00:00

KHARINA Secondary School participated in the inaugural National Youth Fun Run in Durban recently and returned home with first prize.

This event was organised by the Department of Sports and Recreation and was run at the Bay of Plenty on the Durban beach front.

Kharina Secondary took up the challenge and about 260 pupils and 10 teachers entered the five-kilometre and 10-km races. This was the most entrants from one school and earned them first prize of R15 000 and complete football and netball kits.

At the prize giving ceremony which took place on the same day at the beach front, Amichand Rajbansi, the MEC for Sport and Recreation, expressed his gratitude to schools that took part. In addition to the R15 000 prize, he handed over five tickets to Kharina for the soccer match between Manchester United and Orlando Pirates, to be played at King’s Park on July 22.

Every runner who completed the race received a T-shirt and a medal for participating. It was a lucky day for the school as a number of their pupils also won lucky draw prizes for a flat-screen TV set, a DVD player and a cellphone.
