Schoolboys triumph in the Dusi

2014-02-18 00:00

LAST week’s Dusi Canoe Marathon saw a record 10 boys from Kearsney College tame the river in a test of endurance as they faced a low river and intense heat.

The 10 paddlers (five pairs) all arrived safely at Durban’s Blue Lagoon, with Rory McNeil and Stuart McCleave second in the U16 category. They were also the first Kearsney pair home.

Kloof High School had four pupils on the river. Matthew Volek, Jonathan Russell and Jordan Tupper journeyed to Durban with their fathers, while Brent Volek paddled in a K3 boat, with his father Owen and trainer Bridgette Parker. All pairs finished and for Matthew Volek and Russell, this was their first experience of the Dusi.
