Schuster is back in 'Bones 2'

2008-11-28 00:00

ONLY one new film opens locally this weekend — Mr Bones 2. It is showing at all three cinema complexes in the city. Max Payne now joins the Nu Metro line-up as well.

Gray Hofmeyr directs the next Leon Schuster vehicle, Mr Bones 2. The year is 1879 and the African kingdom of Kuvukiland is threatened by redcoat soldiers, who are killing off the Kuvuki tribe’s sacred springbok and making themselves too comfortable on the land.

During the wedding ritual of Hekule (the future king of Kuvukiland) and his queen, Hekule is given a gemstone by the dying Kunji Balanadin, one of the Redcoats’ cooks. The stone is cursed and causes Hekule to become possessed by the spirit of this mischievous Indian chef. It is up to sangoma and advisor to the tribe, Bones, to get rid of this troublesome stone to cure his king. But the stone keeps returning.

Eventually, Bones and Hekule find themselves time travelling to contemporary Durban.

If you like Schuster’s brand of comedy, you will presumably be lining up to see this one. And plenty of people do — time and again, he tops box office returns.
