Scores flock to ‘hit mom’ case

2013-08-29 00:00

SCORES of people tried to force their way into the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court yesterday to witness the bail application of a South Coast woman who allegedly ordered a hit on her two sons.

Dorothy Langeni Makhosazana (50), who lives in Gamalakhe, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

The Gamalakhe community has responded to the nature of the case with morbid fascination. The magistrate Piet Coetzer yesterday admonished the community.

He was unhappy that people were sitting on top of each other and standing in any available spot to hear every detail of Makhosazana’s bail application.

Those who were not able to find a seat were told to leave the court room before prosecutor Sohana Moodley told the court that the state did not think there was a reason for Makhosazana to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Makhosazana’s lawyer, who only identified himself as B.V. Ngcobo, agreed.

The issue of a psychiatric evaluation was discussed at Makhosazana’s first court appearance on August 21. Yesterday’s bail application was postponed to September 4.

Outside the court, the Reverend William Dlamini told reporters and others that Makhosazana was a member of his congregation.

“I would advise people not to be angry at her. Life is about the positive and the negative. I would like to visit her soon,” he said.

The accused, who has three children, was arrested on August 20 in Gamalakhe township.
