Search for a deserving young lady with heart

2013-06-08 00:00

ONE lucky girl stands the chance of winning the matric dance of her dreams worth R15 000.

Businessperson Niyanta Singh-Maharaj and founder of Just Boutique, Lara Edmonds, have teamed up to initiate the “Young Lady with Heart” campaign to reward well-rounded girls for contributing to society, rather than stage a beauty contest.

Singh-Maharaj feels it’s very important that girls who give their time to uplift their communities are acknowledged for all they do.

“We felt that PMB didn’t really have a competition like this for girls. We have looked beyond the beauty and are focusing on rewarding those selfless young women who give their time for noble causes. This is especially important as not many children get involved in these kinds of activities, and we want to give the girls who do, hope that what they are doing can be rewarded,” said Singh-Maharaj.

A “Young Lady with Heart” is one who is passionate and committed to her pursuits, whether it is community service, sport, music or academics. Her qualities include sincerity, loyalty, kindness and generosity. Any Grade 11 or 12 girl who epitomises this can be nominated for the campaign. Nominations close on June 14.

From the nominations, 20 girls will be selected to attend a workshop where five finalists will be selected. The winner will then be chosen by the community through an SMS voting system. The winning girl will receive an inclusive package for her matric dance worth R15 000.

To nominate a deserving girl, entries can be made at Lady Di Exclusive Boutique, Solѐ Salons and Spa at 120 Victoria Rd (Wetherly’s Centre). Nomination forms can also be found on the campaign’s “A Young Lady with Heart” Facebook page.

The event is not for profit.
