Seasonal tummy bug hits PMB

2007-12-31 00:00

A tummy bug is doing the rounds in the city with many people being struck down by diarrhoea and vomiting, but medical professionals say that this is normal for this time of year.

Local pharmacists told The Witness that they are dispensing a lot of anti-nausea and anti-diarrhoea medication.

One pharmacist from Duzi-Med Pharmacy said that the bug could be linked to the recent extreme changes in weather between hot and cooler conditions. He advised people to stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

“And the rich food associated with Christmas feasting has also not helped the situation,” he said.

St Anne’s spokesman Vitesh Ramklown said the hospital has not had more cases than is usual for the period annually.

Chris Maxon of the Health Department said that they have not been alerted to any epidemic.

A private GP who asked not to be named said that while he has treated many people, he saw worse cases earlier in the year.
