Second murder in two weeks in Albert Falls area

2010-09-06 00:00

THE murder of farmer Radash Anandlal was the second in the Albert falls area in two weeks.

Anandlal lived about three kilometres from where Erica Croeser (32) was murdered at Msinsi Game Reserve last Saturday. Croeser’s throat was slit with a knife that was also used to stab her 34-year-old husband, Constable Morné Croeser of the police dog unit, in the stomach. No arrests have been made.

Reacting to the murder, KwaZulu-Natal Agriculture Union’s security desk spokesperson, Koos Marais, said farmers must take measures to protect themselves.

“It is difficult in a large and open area, but farmers must be alert and use their staff to assist them. We are alarmed about the increase in farm attacks in KZN. The cost on food production and farmworkers is enormous and can’t be ignored.” He called on the justice system to look at the rights of victims and to apply measures as a deterrent to crime.

A distraught Amit Anandlal said his father lived by the tenets of his religion, which were to love all and serve all.

“He was against violence and was a humble man, strong in his faith that God will provide and protect.

“My father died senselessly. This must open the eyes of the law and the government that they need to do something to cut down crime.

“Farmers work 24 hours a day to provide food. The perpetrators of farm attacks are biting the hand that feeds them.

“Also, all his farming expertise goes with him. His labourers will be unemployed. Those who made a living from buying his livestock to re-sell will lose their livelihoods. It’s a chain reaction.
