Second suspect arrested over couple’s murder

A SECOND suspect has been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of Merrivale couple Alan O’Neal and Hannetjie Blom, whose charred bodies were found near Howick in June.

A 24 year-old man was arrested in Howick yesterday and is expected to appear in court today.

The first suspect, Alfred Ntuli, was arrested a few days after the couple’s bodies were discovered. Ntuli was the gardener at the couple’s home.

The motive for the murder is believed to have been revenge related to an altercation Ntuli allegedly had with the couple.

It is alleged that a cellphone belonging to Blom was stolen from the couple’s house.

Ntuli allegedly returned the cellphone after Blom threatened to report the theft to the police.

On the night preceding the discovery of the couple’s bodies, Ntuli and an accomplice are believed to have waited for the couple to return home. When they returned home in separate vehicles, Ntuli and his friend allegedly bound the couple and took them in their vehicles, a VW Jetta and a Jeep Cherokee, which were found in Dargle and Hilton respectively.

The 24-year-old is believed to be Ntuli’s accomplice.
