Second youth charged

2011-04-06 00:00

A 17-YEAR-OLD youth was the sixth suspect to appear in court this week in connection with the murder of Naushad Mohamed (23) at G’s Cafe in Raisethorpe at the weekend.

The youth, who made a fleeting appearance in the magistrate’s court yesterday, supported by his guardian, will join another juvenile, who is 15 years old, in the dock again today when they are to undergo assessments by a probation officer.

The two youngsters and four adult accused face charges arising from a brawl at G’s Cafe in Khan road on Friday night, which arose as a result of an altercation between two teenagers at a nearby sports ground earlier.

During the incident people were assaulted with weapons such as baseball bats and pick handles, and a shot was fired, killing Mohamed.

The adult accused are; Adrian Muthusamy (38), Deon Maharaj (28), Leona Naidoo (33) and Kurt Naidoo (33) all of Copesville.

Apart from the murder charge, they are also charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Yubendran Lutchman by “punching him in the face with a clenched fist” and Jonathan Govender by “hitting him all over his body with a baseball bat and a pick handle”.

The accused are also charged with the unlawful possession of a 9mm pistol.
