A SECURITY guard was killed and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken during a cash-in-transit heist at the N2 Ultra City north of Durban yesterday morning.

A G4 Security guard was shot during a shootout between the guards and a gang of seven robbers at the uMvoti Ultra City. The guards were carrying a box of money when they arrived at the petrol station.

It is alleged that the security guards were confronted by the heavily armed gang and robbed of the box. “When the security officers resisted, there was an exchange of gunfire between the security officers and the criminals. One security officer sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the body and he was confirmed dead at the scene,” said SAPS spokesman Superintendent Vincent Mdunge.

The organised crime unit is investigating cases of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder.
