Seizure: man drowns in Durban

2010-07-21 00:00

AN employee of Durban Marine died after falling into the water as he was busy working on a yacht at the Point Yacht Club yesterday afternoon.

It is believed that the 40-year-old man from kwaMashu, north of Durban, suffered fits as he was busy working at about 2 pm.

Kirsten Stokes of Durban Marine said the incident shocked the man’s colleagues, who pulled him out of the water and tried to resuscitate him.

“He must have suffered fits or some sort of a seizure as he was walking on the sideway. He was quite new at work and we did not have his medical records,” said Stokes.

Netcare911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said a security guard saw the incident and pulled the man out of the water.

“When medics arrived at the scene the man had unfortunately died as a result of his submersion,” Wicks said.
