Selebi: ‘A bit better’ and back behind bars

2011-12-19 00:00

FORMER police chief Jackie Selebi has been discharged from Pretoria’s Steve Biko hospital and sent back to prison.

He was taken to the Biko facility last week for tests and further treatment after being in the Pretoria Central hospital infirmary since he entered prison on December 5.

Zacharia Modise, deputy commissioner for corrections at Correctional Services, said yesterday Selebi was discharged on Wednesday last week and returned by his prison guards to the prison. “He’s not doing well, but he is a bit better,” he said.

He declined to elaborate on what ails the former commissioner, but said his condition was being continuously monitored.

The family of Selebi (61) have requested that no personal information about his health be released.

He collapsed at his home in Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria, on December 2. — Own Correspondent.
