Senior officer recovering from gunshot wounds

A SENIOR police officer is recovering from gunshot wounds in MediClinic private hospital in Pietermaritzburg, after being shot at by five armed unknown men while parking his vehicle at home.

Warrant Officer Timothy Pillay (49), stationed at Townhill police station, was off duty when he became a the victim of an attempted robbery incident earlier this week.

Pillay was returning to his Northdale home at around 9.30 pm when he was allegedly ambushed by the armed men. He managed to dodge the bullets and ended up sustaining a gunshot wound on his left arm.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said a case of attempted murder was opened at Mountain Rise police station.

Zwane said Pillay was in a stable condition at hospital and added that no arrests had been made and that investigations were continuing.
