Senior policewoman ‘critical’ after crash

2011-08-19 00:00

KWAZULU-Natal (KZN) senior police spokesperson Brigadier Phindile Radebe was admitted to Medi-Clinic hospital in Pietermaritzburg after her car collided head-on with a minibus taxi on the main Ashburton road late yesterday afternoon.

She is said to be in a critical but stable condition.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said Radebe was on her way to a Women in Dialogue workshop when the accident happened.

She was alone in the car.

The conference was organised by the provincial police department and all senior members were invited.

Jeevan said the workshop was to discuss issues that are pertinent to women in the province and it coincided with the Women’s Month.

“She was driving from Durban to Ashburton when she collided head-on with the taxi. At this stage we don’t know how the accident happened, but she was removed from her vehicle in a stretcher and in a brace,” said Jeevan, who was at the scene.

She said the taxi driver was alone in his vehicle. He was taken to Northdale Hospital, also in a serious but stable condition.
