Sentence: Life term for ‘troublemaker’ killer

2008-11-10 00:00

An uMzimkulu man who pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of a man accused of being a “troublemaker” in the community was sentenced to life imprisonment by Pietermaritzburg High Court Acting Judge Nompumelelo Radebe yesterday.

Imposing the ultimate sentence on Mxolisi Shoes Dlamini (48), the judge said the victim, Meshack Mjoli, was killed in an “appalling manner”.

She said he was attacked and killed in a callous way while asleep at his home on December 11 last year.

Dlamini and two others attacked him with a sharpened iron rod, a bushknife and grass slasher.

After realising that the victim was dead, Dlamini slit his throat, she said.
