Serial puppy skinner needs psychiatric help — prosecutor

2012-01-17 00:00

IT was not the first time that a Pretoria man had killed and skinned puppies to freeze them.

For this reason, the accused Christiaan Lamprecht had to be send for psychiatric observation, said state prosecutor, Miss Ngibu, — who did not want to give her first name to Beeld.

Lamprecht (22), appeared on a charge of animal cruelty in the magistrate in Pretoria North yesterday.

Ngibu said the state was not ready to proceed with an application for bail “because it was not the first time that the accused committed this sort of deed”.

Lamprecht was arrested on Saturday evening after police found two frozen carcasses of 10-week-old puppies under his bed and in his cupboard. Both dogs had been skinned. More parts of the carcasses were found in the freezer. The police also confiscated a knife that Lamprecht reportedly used to skin the puppies.

Liezel Steyn, who lives in a flat next to Lamprecht in West street in Pretoria North, said two of her dogs had disappeared last week. She and the homeowner’s son investigated a reeking bag full of rotting vegetables and found parts of animals.

They called the police, who found more animal parts in Lamprecht’s flat.

Magistrate Theo Ramahanelo postponed the case so that the district surgeon could evaluate Lamprecht, who is still held in custody.
