Serial robber held

2014-02-04 00:00

A 24-YEAR-OLD man suspected of a series of thefts from state offices and other premises was remanded after a brief appearance in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Mthobisi Collin Kubheka was arrested after the land affairs department supplied footage that helped police track him to his home in Sobantu.

According to police, on January 23, security guards at the department’s Pietermaritzburg offices stopped a man, thought to be Kubheka, leaving the building. He was found with a laptop bag containing a laptop, a cellphone, an iPad and a portable TV.

The man told the guards he was going to have a cigarette outside while they investigated the ownership of the items, and then disappeared. It is also alleged that Kubheka defrauded two businesses of approximately R40 000 in 2010. He was released on bail while his case on those charges continues.

He will be back in court on Friday.
