Sevens tournament at Woodburn

2012-08-28 00:00

THE Charles Lowe Schools Sevens tournament, run by the Midlands Rugby Academy, took place over the past three Wednesdays on the Woodburn grounds.

There were 12 sides participating this year, as well as the KZN U18 Sevens team.

The schools that entered teams were regulars, Michaelhouse, Maritzburg College, Kearsney, St Charles and Kloof. Participating for the first time were Hilton, Kingsway and Port Shepstone. Weston and Westville both entered, but both withdrew at the last minute. It was disappointing that Voortrekker and some other local schools did not participate.

Kearsney, who has won the trophy for the past two years, was beaten in the Cup final by Maritzburg College.

Some advantage of playing third-term rugby was evident when College II, made up mainly of U16 players, won the Plate final, beating Kearsney II 36-12.

The Bowl final was won emphatically by Kloof, who defeated Kingsway 41-0.
