Sharks: Jandre marais in for injured sykes against buoyant griquas in Kimberley

LOCK Steven Sykes, nursing a rib injury, will miss the Sharks’ Currie Cup outing against Griquas in Kimberley.

Jandre Marais, who impressed as Sykes’s replacement against Free State at the weekend, retains his place in the only change to the starting line-up.

Peet Marais replaces his brother Jandre on the bench.

Coach John Plumtree, concerned that his pack will face a tiring, physical challenge at altitude, has named five forwards and only two backs on the bench, with Brynard Stander replacing Rosko Specman among the replacements.

Griquas coach Pote Human has made one change to the team taht upset the Currie Cup champions, the Golden Lions, 42-32 at the weekend.

Former Maritzburg College outside back Jannie Boshoff, loaned to Griquas by the Lions this season, was injured at Ellis Park and he is replaced by former Sharks wing

Luzuko Vulindlu.

“It is very disappointing for Jannie that he was injured against the

Lions and will be sorely missed against the Sharks,” Human said yesterday.

Human said his team were in a confident mood after their Ellis Park triumph.

Griquas are facing relegation at the bottom of the log, but the bonus point win over the Lions has boosted morale, and although they are still sixth, they are just eight points behind the log-leading Sharks.

“We gained some much needed momentum against the Lions and have kept changes to a minimum. Now we need to keep on winning,” said Human.

The referee will be Lesego Legoete and kick-off is at 3 pm on Saturday.
