Sharks XV into semis

THE Sharks XV downed last year’s champions Griquas 28-24 at King’s Park on Saturday to advance to the semi-finals of the Vodacom Cup.

They will play the unbeaten Blue Bulls for a place in the final.

Three South section sides — Boland, Free State Cheetahs and the Sharks — qualified for the semis. The Bulls were the only North section survivors to make the final four after they defeated Western Province 17-6 at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

In Wellington, Boland gained a 30-25 victory over the Leopards.

For the Sharks XV, Charl McLeod scored a brace of tries, while Patric Cilliers was the other Sharks XV player to cross the try line for the hosts.

Flyhalf Monty Dumond kicked three penalties and two conversions.

In the other quarter-final match, the Cheetahs scored a 30-20 victory over the Golden Lions. SCORERS Sharks 28 Griquas 24.
