Shortened College clash ends in no a result

2013-09-24 00:00

DESPITE the rain on Friday evening, all but one game started on time on the first day of the 54th Michaelmas week. In the match between the hosts Maritzburg College and St Stithians on Goldstones, the start was delayed and it was reduced to 45 overs per innings. Bad light stopped play and without the Duckworth/Lewis being used, the game ended in a no result.

It was a chilly day with many spectators around the grounds wrapped in blankets. Four KZN schools — Michaelhouse, DHS, Hilton and Westville — won their games, while Northwood, Glenwood, Kearsney and St Charles lost, the latter narrowly.

Hilton posted the biggest total on the day, making 269/9 in their allotted 50 overs that eventually gave them a 165-run win against Hudson Park. St Stithians scored 248/5 against College in their 45 overs. The biggest losing total was by St David’s, who made 224/9 but were pipped by DHS, who reached the target with eight wickets down.

Together with Hilton, KES had a nine-wicket win against Northwood, Affies beat Glenwood by eight wickets and Michaelhouse had a 99-run win against St John’s.

Individual honours went to batsmen Jaryd Edy from Hilton and Marques Ackerman from St Stithians, who both scored in the 90s. Two bowlers, Luke Stevens from Michaelhouse and Luke Schlemmer from Westville, took fifers to help their sides to a win.
