A GRADE 10 pupil at Fundukhaliphe High in Nongoma, Zululand, was killed instantly after he was hit in the face by a bullet on Friday.

KwaZulu-Natal police said Muziwenkosi Msimango (18) was walking home with a friend after school at Odoncaneni when the friend allegedly took a gun from his bag to show Msimango how it works.

Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said two shots went off, one bullet hitting Msimango in the face. He died instantly.

The Nongoma police were called and the 19-year-old friend was arrested at the scene.

A .38 Special revolver with one live round was recovered and will be sent for ballistic tests.

The arrested youth, also a grade 10 pupil at the same school, was charged with murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He will appear in the Nongoma Magistrate’s Court today.
