Signature Durban fashion by Haroun Hansrot

AHEAD of the Vodacom Durban July, an excited group of fashion fundis gathered in the Oyster Box’s glamorous Pearl Room to view Haroun Hansrot’s newest collection for spring and summer.

Hansrot, one of Durban’s finest designers, used the opportunity to showcase his menswear, haute couture and prêt a porter collections.

The collection featured distinctly Indian elements combined with elegant cuts and opulent fabric.

His beach and ready-to-wear collections showed sheer, flowing tunics and skirts in shades of turquoise and green. Black netted pieces with stylish jewellery were contrasted with multi-coloured and layered dresses that both flowed and fitted perfectly.

Cocktail dresses and evening wear in fuchsia and green featured floral detail, drawing attention to panelled waistbands and figure-hugging bodices.

Hansrot showed his signature Durban-specific menswear blazers, and the crowd was wowed by the hand-painted detail on each of the coats.

Another piece that caused a stir was a full-length, long-sleeve garment made entirely of beads. Strategic groups coupled with elegant lines of beads created a flowing, see-through creation.

Hansrot, who has shared the ramp with Roberto Cavalli and Versace, has opened his signature store “75”.
