Singing sensation Lira set to perform in PMB in August

MUSIC lovers in the city will be be in for a celebration when singing sensation Lira comes to Pietermaritzburg on August 27.

Her album Lira Live — A Celebration, which reached double platinum earlier in the year, has rocketed the 29-year-old to fame.

Her career was launched in 2006 when she released her Feel Good album, followed in 2008 by Soul in Mind.

Lira defines her music by its honesty, soulfulness, femininity and joyfulness. She  has worked hard at developing her skills as a songwriter and has become an intuitive performer, developing into a world-class talent.

“I think the album is the sound of a woman getting into her own skin, of finding her own creative voice and exploring the music that people heard on Feel Good, but taking it much deeper,” Lira explained.

However, “taking it deeper” is never at the expense of alienating her audience; instead Lira has crafted an album that will fold itself into the hearts of listeners, offering the warmth and comfort of someone who instinctively knows how to convey life’s big themes in a way that instantly resonates.

Although Lira’s music is frequently described as afro-soul, the diversity on her new album makes the classification less easy this time around.

“… there is S’thandwa Sam (my Kasi song about a girl wondering why her boyfriend won’t declare their relationship publicly), the old school sound of Made For Me, the out-and-out girly song It’s Alright and the unashamedly upbeat Celebrating Life, which is made for the dance floor,” she explained

The concert takes place at the Royal Showgrounds in the Olympia hall on Friday, August 27. Tickets are available from Computicket for between R175 and R325.
