Sisonke district: KZN Legislature to hold Two-day sitting

2010-11-01 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Legislature will hold a two-day sitting tomorrow and Wednesday at the Sisonke District within the Ingwe Municipality as part of the Legislature’s public participation initiative.

KZN Legislature spokesperson, Wonder Hlongwa, said the sittings will be held at the Nkwezela Sports Ground in the Bulwer area and will start at 10 am on each day.

The KZN Legislature embarks on these public participation programmes in line with Section 118 of the Constitution of the Republic which encourages public participation.

Public participation is used as a form of empowering the voters to hold the state accountable and ensure the people’s aspirations take centre stage in the state’s developmental agenda.

The forthcoming sitting is a culmination of a long process which has seen various interactions of the KZN Legislature with the people of Sisonke.

These interactions recently resulted in, amongst other things, the multi-party visits to the Sisonke district in which MPLs — representing all political parties represented in the provincial Legislature — visited Sisonke on a fact finding mission.

The multi-party delegation has compiled a report which will be tabled at the forthcoming sitting.

Issues raised during the multi-party delegation visits include the lack of water, sanitation, electricity and roads.

The people of Sisonke will get an opportunity to engage MPLs and MECs on issues that affect their community..
