Sithole yet to meet NPA on Haswell saga

2011-08-11 00:00

MSUNDUZI administrator Sibusiso Sithole is yet to meet the National Prosecuting Agency (NPA) to find out why it has declined to prosecute former Msunduzi municipal manager Rob Haswell.

The Witness reported last week that the NPA has declined to prosecute Haswell because there was no prospect of a successful prosecution.

Sithole said, “We still need to confirm our diaries and that of the NPA so that we can set up a meeting to find out why they have declined to prosecute Haswell.”

Haswell could be off the hook after the NPA declined to prosecute him, although he was the accounting officer for the Msunduzi Municipality at the height of its financial woes.

The NPA’s decision has created a furore in the council with opposition parties demanding to know why it has declined to prosecute Haswell.

Some councillors believe it was not acceptable that the NPA has decided to go to the media before reporting its decision to the council.
