Six armed men rob store

2013-11-21 00:00

LESS than 24 hours after Pietermaritzburg police shot and killed two armed robbers in the city, another business was robbed of an undisclosed quantity of cigarettes yesterday morning.

During the early hours of the morning, six men wearing balaclavas held up a security guard at Save Cash and Carry at the Truro Plaza in Raisethope.

Two of the men brandished firearms.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the security guard, Mfanukhona Buthelezi (39), was doing his rounds at about 3.30 am when he was confronted by the robbers.

“Two of the men produced firearms and forced him to the ground.

They then tied his hands with cable ties and took his Nokia cellphone,” said Zwane.

The robbers forced open the shutter doors and the main door to the supermarket.

A large quantity of cigarettes was stolen.

The robbers fled in a white Toyota Yaris with unknown registration plates, said Zwane.
