Six from KZN to show SA their talents

2012-10-06 00:00

SIX KwaZulu-Natal contestants have made it through to the semi-finals of SA’s Got Talent (SAGT) . They are disabled Pietermaritzburg dancer Nhlanhla (Luke) Nxele; beatboxers Drumkit and Evo, from Umhlanga; singers Khanyisa Mbuthu, from Imbali, and Mbongeni Mavuso, from Morningside, who together make up the group Iziqhaza; and Njabulo, the bullet rapper from Phoenix.

Fifteen-year-old Luke has been dancing for the last five years and entered SAGT because he wanted to show South Africa and the world that anyone can do anything they set their minds on. Determined not to be labelled as that boy with the crutches, he wants to be known as the boy who made an effort for change.

Iziqhaza’s Mavuso and Mbuthu met while training to be nurses and were impressed with each other’s singing. They have been performing together for the last two years and their dream is to showcase their talent and share their music with South Africa.

Evo and Drumkit, meanwhile, have been making waves in the Durban hip-hop scene with their beatboxing and believe that together they are an explosive act.

Njabulo has been into hip-hop for the last 14 years.

He wants to showcase his verbal skills and show people that even with a negative background your talent can make you someone.

These six contestants will now battle it out with the other finalists in the top 18.

Their competitors include a young poet, singers, dancers and a Pretoria dog owner and his pet that performs tricks.

Kee-Leen Irvine, Rapid Blue executive and series producer for SAGT, said: “This long-awaited season of SA’s Got Talent has been a thrilling ride.

“Five and a half thousand people, from all over the country, people from all walks of life and varying backgrounds came to perform for the country in the hope of netting that R250 000 cash prize and turning their lives around.

“Now it’s over to the viewers to cast their vote and select a worthy winner.”
