Sizzling few weeks for Abbott

2014-03-12 00:00

IT’S been a fruitful few weeks for Dolphins paceman Kyle Abbott, who is sizzling at the top of his cricket dreams.

Initially omitted from the Proteas Test squad for the three-Test series against the Australians, he was called up for the final Test and played his second five-day game for the team and then he was drafted into the T20 team for the World Cup in Bangladesh.

Adding another feather to his cap, he was named the Sunfoil Sizzler of the Month for February at Kingsmead yesterday, earning R15 000 for his efforts. This rewards his outstanding returns for the Dolphins in the second round of the four-day series, where he is currently the leading wicket-taker with 22 victims, sharing top spot with Warriors spinner Simon Harmer.

Abbott’s 12-125 in the match against the Cobras in Paarl was another example of a player quietly going about his business, in the hope of being noticed by the national selectors.

That has finally happened for him as he continues where he left off last season, when he topped the overall wicket-takers’ column with 49 scalps. Although he currently shares top spot, he is far and away the most economical bowler (2,28) and has the best average (13,09).
