Sizzling: ‘heat’ Manwatch winner hails from Durbs

2011-07-02 00:00

GORGEOUS, multi-talented Daniel Wessels (21) of Durban has won this year’s coveted heat ManWatch competition with an overwhelming majority, the magazine announced yesterday.

The model, singer, dancer and actor was born and bred in Westville. He said that when he heard the news he was overwhelmed and surprised. The heat ManWatch title comes with a bag full of prizes, including an appearance on 7de Laan, R10 000 cash and a sizzling photo shoot for heat.

Teased at school, Wessels said he was a geek and still is. “The kids at school used to call me ‘weasel’ because of my surname.” said Wessels. It’s hard to believe that one of the sexiest men in the country had to deal with bullies because of his skinniness and his braces. The law student also made it into the top 30 of Idols Season 6 in 2010, was named Mr Rapport for January 2012 and won a stream of gold medals at various levels of competitive swimming, including representing South Africa in two World Cups.

Wessels also has an album to his name that he released independently in 2010. In the same year he entered the Calvin Klein underwear competition after a friend of his told him about it.

Though he did not win the competition and ended up in the top 10 in the country, the competition made him realise what he really wanted in life. From the beginning of this year he started on a strict diet and training regime of six days a week.
