Ski-boat festival: High seas did not cancel fishing

2011-07-08 00:00

THE four-day Fishing Festival is going ahead despite high seas and strong winds on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

The festival, which started on Wednesday, is being held at St Michaels and ends Saturday. Local rumours had the ski-boat fishing fest cancelled due to bad weather, but organisers said that the show goes on. One of the organisers, Anton Get of the Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club, said although Wednesday and Thursday were a “blow-out” with both days’ fishing dropped due to bad weather, there were no cancellations. “All the boats are here and participants are up and about with other activities. Due to the high seas fishing had to be abandoned at Shelly Beach Harbour and we will wait and see how the weather becomes tomorrow (Thursday). Not going ahead with fishing doesn’t mean we have cancelled. All the participants from throughout the country are here,” said Get.

Tomorrow night sees comedian Barry Hilton while Elvis Blue will entertain show-goers on Saturday.
