Skonk: Heat takes its toll

2012-04-07 00:00

AT the end of the third day of the Skonk Nicholson Rugby Festival hosted by Maritzburg College, there were three unbeaten sides in the U16 age group — Maritzburg College, Westville and KES.

All four that were unbeaten at U14 level after the second day, Hudson Park, Menlopark, Nelspruit and Jeppe, again won yesterday.

Arguably the match of the day was between the under 16 teams of Trinityhouse and Hudson Park.

The latter led 36-26 with not many minutes remaining and they probably relaxed their efforts slightly. Trinityhouse came back with two tries, one converted, to win the game 38-36.

Westville led 15-0 against Queens at the break, but the Border team scored in the second half and came close on a number of occasions, but could not against some good defence by Westville, who won the game 15-7.

The last match of the festival on Goldstones saw hosts College scoring a converted try from their own goalline after Brandwag had nearly scored on three occasions.

In the second half a penalty and two more tries by College — as Brandwag wilted in the heat of the day — saw College win 22-0.
