THE School Leavers’ Opportunity Training (Slot) programme in Imbali, which is credited with assisting many matriculants with training to help them gain employment, celebrated 20 years yesterday.
The organisation was founded by Pauline Green and aims to provide education and skills for students between the ages of 18 and 35.
It now operates a number of centres in local townships.
Brian Bassett, a project officer at the centre, said the programme has achieved great success in the past 20 years. He credited their four-phase programme for much of the success where students learn life skills, creating opportunities to further their education, business skills and networking.
He said 30% to 40% of the students who go through the programme are successfully placed in a work environment.
Former students also raved about the organisation, saying it had propelled them to where they are. Thando Ndimande said thanks to the training he received there, he is now a self employed businessman with 20 employees.
