Small Business: Fairs launched

2008-03-21 00:00

Small businesses’ growth came in under the spotlight at the launch of the eThekwini Municipality’s small business fairs held in Durban yesterday.

The initiative — which starts next month — has assisted thousands of small businesses in and around Durban over the past decade.

eThekwini Mayor Obed Mlaba and head of the eThekwini business support unit (BSU) Philip Sithole urged big businesses and industry leaders to play a role in the fair as sponsors and in the business linkage and mentoring programmes.

The BSU, in partnership with teams and leaders in rural areas, will bring the fairs to their own areas in the coming months.

This will culminate in a central fair in Durban at the end of September. Pictured at the launch are Sithole (left) and guest speaker Jimmy Manyi, president of the Black Management Forum.
