Smartphone use to soar

2015-03-21 00:00

THE trend of BYOD (Bringing Your Own Device) is becoming increasingly popular in the corporate workplace, World Wide Worx managing director Arthur Goldstuck said. He believes the rise in smartphone usage will increase this demand.

Goldstuck, a pioneer in the South African market in the use of the Internet as a tool for productivity, was speaking at the Sony Mobile: Mobile in the Workplace event in Sandton. He said the corporate demands of smartphones have made owning one essential for everyday consumers if they wish to appear more professional.

His prediction for smartphone usage in the country was expected to rise to 23,6 million in 2015 from 19 million in 2014. “We see a mass migration from feature phones to smartphones and this is a challenge in the workplace.”

He also mentioned that while predictions were that workplaces would include windows that act as computer screens, powered by solar energy, were plausible, reality was that with consumers using more than just one device, the future workplace would be one cluttered by cabling to power the devices.
