‘Smith a boost for highlanders’

2014-07-18 00:00

THE Highlanders named their starting XV for the Sharks clash and it was significantly boosted by the return to fitness of All Black Ben Smith.

He was one of five changes to the team that was crushed 34-8 by the Crusaders last weekend.

White expected his return to have the same impact as Lambie’s would have on the Sharks.

“He’s a great player, I mean you saw last week without him how they got thumped by the Crusaders,” he added. “It’s not just because he’s a good player, but it’s because of what he does to players around him.

“When he’s there, he obviously gives them a massive amount of calm. Don’t underestimate that, it’s the same we’d get with Pat. So I have no doubt Ben Smith being around will give the Highlanders a massive amount of energy.”
