PETRUS Mahlatsi, the SuperSport United striker who was stretchered off after a clash of heads in his debut against Maritzburg United at Woodburn Stadium on Friday night, was yesterday still in hospital, writes MARC STRYDOM.

Mahlatsi spent just 12 minutes on the field after coming on as a 68th-minute substitute before being stretchered off after an aerial clash with Byrone Hendricks. According to a report on, the striker is waiting to be discharged from a hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

“I suffered a severe head injury, but am recovering well, albeit slowly,” Mahlatsi told the website.

“I’m still waiting for the doctors to decide when to discharge me from hospital, but it looks like it might take some time before I return to training.”

SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt said: “After working so hard to get him [Mahlatsi] from Celtic, it’s very sad to lose him when we needed him most.”

Mahlatsi joined SuperSport as a late signing from Bloemfontein Celtic last week.
