Soccer: New body formed

A RECENT meeting of various managers and coaches involved in local school football saw the formation of the KZN Midlands High Schools Football Association, which will regulate standards and co-ordinate fixtures for the participating schools.

The midlands association will affiliate to the KZN High Schools Football Association and it incorporates schools from Pietermaritzburg, including Hilton and Howick. This is surely a positive step taken by the schools to ensure that the sport is given its due recognition and support. Ben Bosch of Maritzburg College was elected as chairperson, with Dave Karlsen of St Charles College as general secretary. High schools wishing to affiliate may respond to the e-mail below.

While most of the school soccer is played in the third term, fixtures have started for some schools and Maritzburg College recorded a resounding 6-1 win on their Reunion Day against Queensburgh, with goals from Nala Khumalo (2), Bandile Shandu, Simphiwe Mathupa, Ryan Moon and Thula Dladla. The game was marred, however, by a terrible foul which resulted in an injury for Khumalo, College’s captain.
