Sock it them: trendy pink knee-highs help LifeLine to help thousands

2011-07-06 00:00

IT is simple to make a difference this winter. Just buy a pair of pink polka dot or stripe socks for R30 in support of LifeLine and Rape Crisis.

This innovative campaign aims to raise much-needed funds for LifeLine and Rape Crisis and it will be launched at Just Boutique’s open days in the city from Thursday to Saturday.

The trendy knee-high socks will be on sale for R30 and R10 will be donated to the organisation. “We wanted to do something for LifeLine and Rape Crisis that was special and feminine and the Hedgerow Socks are gorgeous and fun,” said Lara Edmonds, co-ordinator of Just Boutique Events.

LifeLine director Debbie Harrison said the organisation has reached 74 729 people during the last 12 months — just over 16 000 or 22% through counselling and 88% through proactive prevention methods of workshops and dialogue work that aims to find solutions to problems like adult rape, HIV and child sexual abuse, as well as stress and depression.

LifeLine’s work aims to develop the individual, promote healing and problem-solving abilities. All these services are free to the client and it is to support this free service for which LifeLine is constantly seeking funds.

Linda Hofmeyr of LifeLine and Rape Crisis said they hope to inspire a number of runners and cyclists to support this worthy cause by wearing a sporty pair of “bright pink socks” and are looking for sponsors to help them make sports socks.

Members of the public are invited to enjoy Just Boutique’s open day and charity benefit which will also feature cappuccinos for Lifeline from Hirsch as well as fun “boutique activities for the kids”. The event will take place at 23 Montgomery Drive in Athlone.
