Sono plots mystery Euro import

2011-08-09 00:00

IN an effort to strengthen his strike force for the upcoming season, Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono has decided to lure back one of his imports from the European leagues.

Though he would not be drawn into revealing the name of the player, The Witness has picked up that it could be Chris Katongo, Essau Kanyenda or Benjamin Mwaruwaru.

After setting alight the PSL by scoring 15 goals in the first half of the 2007 season, Zambian Katongo moved to Denmark where signed for Brondby.

He later moved to Germany to turn out for Arminia Bielefeld and Skoda Nxathi in Greece.

He currently plies his trade in China for Henan.

Malawian Kanyenda left Cosmos eight seasons ago and has since been earning a living in Russia. He was linked with a move back to PSL last season, but the intended move to Moroka Swallows hit a snag.

Then there is Mwaruwaru, the Zimbabwean marksman who arguably ranks amongst Sono’s most successful imports.

He has zig-zagged through the Swiss, French and English leagues, where his goalscoring prowess is well documented.

Cosmos desperately need an established marksman as was evident during the Uthukela Mayoral Cup, where veteran Alton Meiring huffed and puffed upfront against AmaZulu.

“There is this player I sent overseas I want back to help my team in the striking department. I hope to finalise everything with his team and hope to have him available for our game against Chiefs at the weekend,” said Sono.

Sono stressed that he won’t be relegated this time round.
