South Coaster of the day

2011-03-09 00:00

SIYABONGA Msomi owns an events company, Cyassound Events, with his wife.

Msomi supplies sound systems and audio visual material for indoor events and is playing a hand as an organiser of the upcoming Ugu Jazz Festival.

REA NAKETSANA caught up with him and asked him about working and living on the South Coast.

Which is your favourite time of the year?

Winter, because I was born in winter.

What do you love the most about the South Coast?

The weather and the friendliness of the community. It is laid- back compared to places like Durban.

Do you think the Proteas can bring the world cup home?

I think they can, especially with the country behind them 100% like we are.

If you had a visitor, where would you take them to showcase the South Coast?

Margate — there is almost everything there such as the beach, hotels, shopping malls and restaurants. Then I would take them to Gamalakhe for “Shisanyama”.

What do you love the most about your job?

It is challenging, it keeps me on the road and there are great opportunities to network, and because I deal with a lot of people, it allows me to grow as a person.

There are a lot of opportunities if you are hardworking and grounded.

What do you wish you knew when you were younger?

That being closer to God paves a good path in life. I am now closer to God and I have learned that to go right in life you have to be close to Him, so it would have been great to be aware of that when I was younger.

Describe yourself in five words

Hard-working, go-getter, sensitive, protective and generous.

What would you change about the South Coast?

The perception that in order to make it on the South Coast you have to be involved in government tenders. There are a lot of other opportunities such as tapping into empowering what the South Coast has to offer.
