Southport: BMW stolen from resort

2011-09-13 00:00

A DURBAN man who was on holiday at a resort in Southport woke up to find that his BMW had been stolen from outside the cottage in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Selvan Moodley, who was with his family, immediately alerted the police and vehicle tracking company, Netstar.

They discovered that Moodley’s cellphone, together with his wife’s laptop and handbag, had also been stolen.

“The perpetrators gained entry through the bathroom window as the burglar bars had been broken,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

Moodley called Southport police and Netstar. The officer on duty, Sergeant Keral Beetge, distributed a description of the vehicle through the police radio.

“He also alerted Umkomaas police to be on the lookout for the vehicle on the freeway,” said Wiid.

Netstar tracked the vehicle and told police it was travelling north. Umkomaas police stopped the vehicle at a roadblock.

“One occupant who was driving the vehicle was arrested,” said Wiid.

“The man had one of the stolen cellphones in his possession,” she added.

Wiid said police are still looking for the other three suspects, who according to the driver were dropped off and are in possession of the other s

tolen items.

“The suspect is from Durban area and will be charged with house breaking and theft of a motor vehicle,” said Wiid.
